Q Rating

What does Q Rating mean?

Q Rating is a proprietary measure of a celebrity’s or brand’s familiarity and appeal — calculated by The Marketing Evaluations company — used by advertisers, casting directors, and producers to evaluate the public recognition and positive sentiment associated with a performer. The Q Score is calculated from survey data measuring the percentage of respondents who are familiar with a performer and the percentage of those who rate the performer as one of their favorites. A high Q score indicates both wide recognition and strong positive sentiment — the combination most valued for commercial endorsements and casting in audience-driven projects.

Example:The commercial casting director mentioned that the brand had specifically requested performers with high Q scores among parents of young children — a targeting criterion that reflected the advertiser’s research about which celebrities resonated most strongly with their core purchasing audience.
Example: The child actor’s Q score had risen significantly after her recurring role on the popular streaming series, a development her agent used in negotiations to justify a higher rate for her first national commercial booking.

Did you know?
Q scores are one of several proprietary celebrity measurement systems used in the entertainment industry, alongside social media metrics, box office tracking data, and audience research. The Q score’s particular value is its longevity — the methodology has remained consistent since the 1960s, allowing meaningful comparisons of performer appeal across decades. Mickey Mouse consistently achieves among the highest Q scores of any celebrity or brand, a fact that speaks to the extraordinary staying power of Disney’s most iconic character.
