What does Brand Deal mean?
Brand Deal is a commercial arrangement in which a content creator partners with a company to promote a product or service in exchange for compensation. Brand deals range from a single sponsored post to long-term ambassador relationships. Under FTC guidelines, brand deals must be disclosed clearly and conspicuously. For young performers with social media followings, brand deals can represent a meaningful income stream alongside traditional acting work.
Example:The child actor’s growing social media following attracted a brand deal with a children’s educational app — requiring her parents to review FTC disclosure requirements and ensure all content was clearly labeled as paid promotion.
Example: The talent manager helped the young performer evaluate brand deal offers using a simple framework: Did the family genuinely use or believe in the product? Was the compensation appropriate for the audience size? Were the content requirements realistic and age-appropriate?
Did you know?
The FTC’s requirements for brand deal disclosure have become significantly more stringent for content involving minors. Brands and creators working with child influencers face additional scrutiny because young audiences are less able to distinguish between genuine recommendations and paid promotion. The FTC requires #ad or #sponsored to appear prominently at the beginning of posts — not buried in hashtags — and verbal disclosure is required in video content.
