What does Director of Photography (DP) mean?

Director of Photography (DP), also known as a cinematographer, is the head of the camera and lighting departments on a film or television production. The DP is responsible for the visual look of the project, working closely with the director to determine the lighting, camera angles, shot composition, and overall aesthetic. The Director of Photography plays a key role in translating the director’s vision into visual storytelling, ensuring that every shot is visually compelling and serves the narrative.
