What does Exhibition Venue mean?

Exhibition Venue refers to any physical location where films or performances are presented to audiences — including movie theaters, film festival screening rooms, drive-in theaters, arthouse cinemas, and IMAX theaters. The characteristics of an exhibition venue — its size, technical capabilities, and geographic location — significantly affect both the commercial performance of a production and the audience’s experience of it.

Example:The film’s limited release began at prestigious exhibition venues in New York and Los Angeles — arthouse cinemas known for presenting quality independent films — before the distributor evaluated whether wider exhibition was commercially justified.
Example: The child actor attended the film’s premiere at one of the city’s most storied exhibition venues — a historic movie palace restored to its original grandeur — experiencing for the first time the magic of seeing her own performance on a large screen with an audience.

The IMAX format — with screens up to eight stories tall and immersive sound systems — creates a physical experience of cinema qualitatively different from home viewing. Some directors, including Christopher Nolan and James Cameron, design their films specifically for the IMAX exhibition experience, creating visual sequences only fully realized on the largest available screens.
