What does Syndication mean?

Syndication refers to the licensing of a television show or other media content to be broadcast on multiple stations or platforms, often after the initial run of the show has ended. Syndicated shows can be sold to various networks or streaming platforms, allowing the creators to continue generating revenue long after the original airing. Syndication is common for popular TV shows, especially sitcoms, dramas, and game shows. Related terms include Reruns, which refer to the repeated broadcast of episodes.

Example:After the show’s initial run, the sitcom is sold into syndication, allowing various TV stations across the country to broadcast it.
Example: A popular game show enters syndication, meaning local stations can license and air the show even after its network contract ends.
