What does Breakdown mean?

Breakdown refers to a detailed description of a project’s roles, characters, and requirements used in casting. Breakdowns are typically created by casting directors and sent to talent agents and actors to inform them of the type of actors being sought for specific roles. A breakdown will include important details such as age, gender, appearance, character traits, and sometimes even plot points. Related terms include Casting Call, which is a public announcement of available roles, and Audition, the process of trying out for those roles.

Example:The casting director sends out a breakdown for the lead role in the film, specifying that they are looking for a female actor in her mid-20s.
Example: Actors often review breakdowns to determine whether their look and experience align with the role before submitting an audition tape.
