What does Avail mean?
Avail is a term used in the entertainment industry to indicate that an actor or crew member is available for a job, but has not yet been officially booked. Being “on avail” means the actor is being seriously considered for a role and should remain available for the dates in question. However, they may not receive confirmation until closer to the shoot date. Related terms include Hold, where an actor is asked to keep their schedule free for potential work, and Booking, the official confirmation of employment.
Example:The casting director put the actor on avail for the commercial shoot, meaning they were in strong consideration but not yet officially booked.
Example: Being placed on avail doesn’t guarantee the job, but it indicates that the actor is a top contender for the role.
