What does Double mean?

Double refers to an actor who serves as a substitute for a principal actor in certain scenes, typically for safety reasons or to protect the principal actor’s image. There are different types of doubles, including stunt doubles, who perform dangerous scenes, and body doubles, who stand in for the actor in shots that require partial nudity or specific body features. Doubles are often used when close-ups or distinct facial recognition are not required. Related terms include Stunt Double, who performs action sequences, and Stand-In, who replaces the actor for lighting and camera setups.

Example:The stunt double performed the car chase scene, allowing the actor to avoid the physical risks of the stunt.
Example: A body double was used for the close-up hand shots, as the actor’s hands did not match the character’s appearance in the script.
