What does Stunt Double mean?

Stunt Double is a performer who takes the place of an actor during scenes that involve dangerous or physically demanding stunts. Stunt doubles are trained professionals who specialize in performing falls, fights, car crashes, and other risky sequences, allowing actors to avoid injury. A stunt double is often chosen for their physical resemblance to the actor they are doubling, ensuring that the substitution is seamless on camera. Stunt doubles work closely with the stunt coordinator to rehearse and execute stunts safely. Related terms include Body Double, who may be used for non-action scenes requiring an actor’s stand-in.

Example:The stunt double steps in for the lead actor during a high-speed car chase, performing dangerous maneuvers under the supervision of the stunt coordinator.
Example: In a fight scene, the stunt double performs the risky falls and punches, ensuring the actor remains safe while the sequence looks realistic on camera.
