Wrap Time

What does Wrap Time mean?

Wrap Time refers to the officially recorded time at which a production day ends and cast and crew are released. Wrap time is distinct from the time filming actually stops — it refers to when performers are fully released from their obligations, which includes time to change out of wardrobe and makeup after the cameras stop rolling. Wrap time is used to calculate turnaround time, overtime payments, and compliance with union rest period requirements. For child performers, wrap time is particularly critical because it determines whether the minor’s out time falls within the legally permitted hours.

Example:The assistant director announced wrap at 8 p.m., but the child actor’s official wrap time was not recorded until 8:20 p.m. — after she had changed out of wardrobe and signed out — which was the time used to calculate her turnaround for the next day’s call.
Example: The production coordinator reminded the first-time parents that wrap time was not the same as when the director called cut on the last scene — the clock continued running through wardrobe removal and sign-out, and their child’s wrap time would determine her earliest permitted call time the following morning.

Did you know?
The distinction between ‘last shot’ time and official wrap time is one of the most important administrative details in union production management. Productions that fail to accurately record wrap times — or that pressure performers to sign out before they have actually completed their wind-down obligations — face significant legal exposure, particularly when child performers are involved. Accurate wrap time documentation is one of the most closely audited areas in labor law enforcement for the entertainment industry.
