What does Wrap Party mean?

Wrap Party is a celebration held by a film or television production to mark the completion of principal photography. Wrap parties are typically organized by the production company and attended by cast and crew as a way of acknowledging the collective effort of the production and marking the transition from the filming phase to post-production. For many crew members, the wrap party is the last time they will see their colleagues from a particular production before everyone disperses to their next jobs.

Example:The child actor and her family attended the wrap party at the end of the six-week shoot — a chance to take photos with cast and crew she had grown close to and to formally mark the end of an experience that had been a significant part of her year.
Example: The producer gave a speech at the wrap party thanking every department for their work, with special acknowledgment of the young performers whose professionalism and energy had set the tone for the entire production.

Did you know?
Wrap parties have a long history in Hollywood as genuinely emotional occasions — productions become tight-knit communities over months of filming, and the wrap party is often bittersweet. For child actors particularly, the end of a production can feel like losing a second family. Many performers and crew members stay in touch for years after a wrap party, and the bonds formed during production are a significant part of what draws many people to the entertainment industry.
