Green Screen

What does Green Screen mean?

Green Screen refers to a visual effects technique where actors or objects are filmed against a solid green background, which is later replaced with different backgrounds or environments using computer-generated imagery (CGI). The green color is chosen because it is easily distinguishable from human skin tones and can be digitally removed (a process called chroma keying) to insert any desired background or visual effect. Green screens are commonly used in films, TV shows, and video games to create fantastical settings or enhance action scenes.

Example:A film crew shoots actors in front of a green screen to later replace the background with a futuristic city using CGI.
Example: A weather presenter stands in front of a green screen, with the weather map digitally inserted behind them during the broadcast.

Green screens are used more frequently than blue screens because digital cameras can more easily differentiate the green from other colors in a scene!
