Point of View (POV)

What does POV (Point of View) mean?

POV (Point of View) refers to the perspective from which a story is told or a scene is filmed. In filmmaking and TV, POV shots are used to show the audience what a character is seeing, creating an immersive experience. The term is also used in screenwriting to describe the narrative viewpoint of a story, whether it’s told from the perspective of a single character or an omniscient narrator. POV shots are common in horror, action, and drama genres to build tension and emotional connection with the audience.

Example:A horror film uses POV shots to show the audience the monster’s perspective, building suspense as the characters are unaware of the danger.
Example: A drama features POV narration, allowing the audience to experience the story from the protagonist’s internal thoughts and emotions.
