What does Practical Effects mean?

Practical Effects refers to special effects created physically on set during filming, as opposed to being added digitally in post-production. Practical effects include explosions, pyrotechnics, prosthetics, animatronics, and other physical elements that enhance the realism of a scene. Many filmmakers prefer practical effects for their authenticity, as they allow actors to interact with real objects or environments, creating a more immersive experience for the audience. Practical effects are widely used in action films, horror movies, and science fiction to create believable environments and characters without relying on CGI.

Example:A sci-fi movie uses practical effects such as animatronic aliens and elaborate prosthetics to create lifelike creatures that actors can interact with on set.
Example: In an action film, the production team sets off real explosions as part of a practical effects sequence to make the stunts more realistic for the audience.
