What does Key Grip mean?

Key Grip refers to the chief grip on a film or television set, responsible for overseeing the crew that sets up and maintains the rigging, camera movement equipment, and lighting support. The key grip works closely with the director of photography (DP) to ensure that all technical aspects related to camera support and movement are executed correctly. This includes managing dollies, cranes, tracks, and scaffolding to create smooth camera movements and supporting lighting setups for optimal scene lighting.
