What does Grip mean?

Grip refers to a technician on a film or television set responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining the equipment used to support cameras, lights, and other gear. Grips work closely with the director of photography and the gaffer to ensure that all the necessary rigs, dollies, and cranes are in place for each shot. There are different types of grips, such as key grips (who lead the team) and dolly grips (who operate camera dollies). Grips are essential to the smooth operation of the technical aspects of a production.

Example:A grip sets up a camera dolly for a tracking shot, ensuring that the camera moves smoothly alongside the actors during the scene.
Example: The grip team works with the lighting department to position large flags and diffusers, helping to control the light and shadows on set.
