Below-the-Line (BTL)

What does Below-the-Line mean?

Below-the-Line refers to the production and technical crew members who work on a film or television project but are not part of the creative or above-the-line team (such as the director, producer, or lead actors). Below-the-line positions include roles such as camera operators, sound engineers, makeup artists, set designers, and costume designers. These individuals are essential to the production process, ensuring that all technical and logistical elements run smoothly during filming.

Example:A camera operator and lighting technician are part of the below-the-line crew responsible for ensuring that scenes are shot with the correct lighting and angles.
Example: The makeup artist, who works behind the scenes to create special effects makeup for a horror film, is a below-the-line crew member.
