What does Super mean?

Super is short for “superimposition,” a term used in film and TV production to describe the placement of text or graphics over a video image. This can include titles, credits, subtitles, or any other visual elements that appear on top of the footage. Supers are often used in news broadcasts, documentaries, and commercials to provide additional information, such as the names of interview subjects or on-screen graphics. Similar terms include Lower Thirds, which refers specifically to text or graphics that appear at the bottom of the screen.

Example:The editor adds a super with the name and title of the interview subject to the lower portion of the screen during a documentary.
Example: A super with the film’s title is placed over the opening shot, giving the audience important context before the scene begins.
