What does Rough Cut mean?

Rough Cut refers to the first version of a film or TV show that has been assembled by the editor. This cut includes all the essential scenes and sequences but may not yet have visual effects, final sound mixing, or color correction. The rough cut serves as a preliminary version for the director and producers to review, allowing them to make decisions on which scenes need adjustments, reshoots, or complete removal. For example, most films undergo several rough cuts before arriving at the final, polished version shown to audiences.

Example:The rough cut of the movie was screened for the producers, who suggested trimming some scenes for better pacing.
Example: After watching the rough cut, the director decided to reshoot one of the pivotal scenes to clarify the storyline.
