What does Foley mean?

Foley refers to the process of creating and recording sound effects in post-production to enhance the audio of a film, television show, or video game. Foley artists reproduce everyday sounds, such as footsteps, door creaks, or glass breaking, using various props and techniques to make the sounds appear natural and in sync with the action on screen. Foley sound effects are essential for adding realism and depth to the audio track, especially when the original sounds captured during filming are inadequate or nonexistent.

Example:A foley artist uses a pair of shoes and a wooden board to replicate the sound of footsteps for a scene in a film where the original audio was too quiet.
Example: During post-production, a foley artist creates the sound of clinking glasses by using actual glassware to add realism to a dining scene.
