What does Actioning mean?

Actioning is a technique used by actors to break down their lines in a script into specific, playable actions. The goal is to identify what the character is actively trying to achieve with each line, making the performance more dynamic and intentional. By focusing on actions such as “persuade,” “comfort,” or “intimidate,” the actor can bring more depth and clarity to their portrayal of the character.

Example:An actor reviews their script and marks each line with a specific action, such as “convince” or “provoke,” to guide their delivery during rehearsals.
Example: Actioning is commonly taught in acting classes to help actors understand the motivation behind their character’s words.
