Front-End Payment

What does Front-End Payment mean?

Front-End Payment refers to the initial payment made to actors, directors, writers, or other key personnel before a film, television show, or other production generates any revenue. This type of payment is part of the contract and is guaranteed, regardless of how well the project performs. Front-end payments are contrasted with back-end deals, which involve profit-sharing or bonuses based on the project’s financial success.

Example:A well-known actor receives a front-end payment of $5 million for starring in a blockbuster film, regardless of the movie’s eventual box office performance.
Example: A screenwriter secures a front-end payment for writing the script of a major studio production, with additional bonuses promised based on box office results.
