What does Canadian Actors’ Equity Association (CAEA) mean?

Canadian Actors’ Equity Association (CAEA) represents professional performers and stage managers in live theater across Canada. Equity negotiates contracts that provide fair wages, health and pension benefits, and safe working conditions for its members, similar to its U.S. counterpart, Actors’ Equity. The union ensures that actors and stage managers working in Canadian theater, including Broadway shows touring Canada, are protected under national labor laws.

Founded in 1955, the CAEA advocates for performers in theater, opera, and dance, ensuring industry standards are maintained for wages, rehearsal conditions, and performance schedules.

Example:A Canadian actor performing in a touring musical receives health benefits and a fair wage thanks to CAEA’s negotiated contracts.
Example: A stage manager working on an opera production in Toronto is guaranteed pension contributions under CAEA agreements.
