What does AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) mean?

AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) was a labor union that represented actors, broadcasters, and recording artists in television, radio, and other media. In 2012, AFTRA merged with the Screen Actors Guild to form SAG-AFTRA, which now represents over 160,000 professionals in the entertainment industry. AFTRA played a crucial role in securing fair wages, health benefits, and residuals for its members. For example, AFTRA helped negotiate contracts that ensured radio hosts and TV actors received residuals for reruns of their shows.
