What does Extras mean?

Extras refer to background actors who appear in non-speaking or minor roles in films, television shows, or commercials. Extras are used to fill out scenes and make them appear more realistic, such as crowds in a stadium, pedestrians on a street, or patrons in a restaurant. While extras do not usually have lines or significant screen time, their presence is essential for creating a believable environment. Extras are typically paid a daily rate and may be required to wear specific costumes or follow directions to create the desired atmosphere for a scene.

Example:In a bustling city scene, extras are hired to walk through the background as pedestrians, adding realism to the film’s setting.
Example: A group of extras plays the role of diners in a restaurant, creating a lively atmosphere for a romantic scene between the main characters.
