What does Term Length (Usage) mean?

Term Length Usage refers to the specified duration during which the client or licensee can use a performer’s work or likeness under a contract. It defines how long the material can be aired, published, or distributed before the agreement must be renewed or renegotiated. In entertainment contracts, this is critical for determining how long an actor’s performance, voice, or image can be utilized. Term lengths can range from short periods, like six months, to much longer durations, depending on the project”s scope and distribution needs.

Example:A commercial actor agreed to a one-year term length for a national ad campaign, after which the contract had to be renewed for continued use of the footage.
Example: A voiceover artist signed a contract with a five-year term length for the use of their recording in a video game, after which their voice could no longer be used without renegotiation.
