What does Hot Set mean?

Hot Set refers to a film or television set that is currently being used for filming and must remain untouched between takes or scenes. When a set is marked as “hot,” it means everything on the set—from props to furniture—must stay in its exact position to maintain continuity for future shots. Crew members and actors are instructed to avoid moving or disturbing anything on a hot set to ensure that the visual elements remain consistent throughout the production.

Example:After a lunch break, the assistant director announces that the set is “hot,” reminding the crew not to touch any props or furniture to maintain continuity for the next scene.
Example: The production designer places a “hot set” sign at the entrance to the room to ensure no one accidentally moves any items while the crew is on break.
